Website Design

Part of my major required me taking several website design and graphics courses. Taking these classes made me realize there are many web sites, both domestically and globally, that need to be made more functional and informational. People today are always in a hurry. They want to find their information quickly. If they can’t find what they’re looking for within their time constraint, they’re on to the next site. Part of a Website Designer’s job is to do just that, get the most important information to the consumer as quickly as possible in order to draw traffic into the site or establishment. So here I have selected a website for a food establishment from my childhood home town and redesigned it . Below you’ll see the current website and my recommended changes making it more navigational and user friendly.

Before

The current Coffee An’ Donut Shop Website is one long continuous page listing everything you want to know about the restaurant but with the most important information at the bottom…the menu as photos of menu boards and the address. First thing most people want to know when deciding if they want to visit an establishment is, what’s on the menu.

After

I maintained the basic elements of the website, i.e., the colors, the font, photos, and the text itself because I didn’t want to change the image of the restaurant. In order to create a more informative site that will draw more traffic to the establishment, I placed two essential elements for decision-making on the home page…the Menu link and directions. I then followed that up by creating separate pages for the peripheral information with simple clicks from page to page.
